When I started dating my mother often said, “If only I had my wisdom and your age.” To this, I would just laugh. Shoo the comment away. Terribly unfazed. Frankly, I couldn’t fathom the thought of it. Her wisdom with my young age? What did that all mean? Joke was on me. I get it now.
Truth is. Mothers are wise. Experience is earned, not given. All we have to do is listen for those golden nuggets of information. Be open to them.
One piece of advice my mother shared with me many moons ago shaped my educational and career goals. It was simple.
Go to school. Be independent.
Because of her advice, I was the the first college graduate in my family.
Throughout the years, I’ve heard rain showers of advice. Including this beautiful scene in the Pursuit of Happyness. Realizing there is more to life than missing boys. Nearly every spoken word in this book Randy Pausch’s, The Last lecture.
Tell me. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? No comment is off-limits!
