Did you know the clutter in your home was draining your energy? Over time is common for us to grow attached to household items. But organizing your home can promote a healthier and intentional life for a better you. Today we are sharing things to declutter that will improve your life within 30 days. Time to clear the clutter!
Why declutter your home?
Let’s start by defining the word clutter. What is it? Clutter is anything you’re keeping that doesn’t add value to your life. This is where decluttering comes in; the art of getting rid of things that are not fulfilling their purpose in your life. Similar to Marie Kondo, the things that don’t bring your joy.
Years ago my now-husband and I were moving in together into a one bedroom apartment. It wasn’t until we started unpacking our things, that I realized we had way too many things. The sad part is, we had them for the sake of having them. Did we really need a yard hose in our downtown apartment? Or the 27 albums stored in the stereo furniture? Of course we didn’t.
Thankfully, I decided to start a 30-day minimalism challenge to reduce the amount of things we owned. By the end of it, I felt sensational. Lighter, more focused on living with less and with intention.
Completing this exercise will relieve stress while providing a sense of accomplishment and control in your life. There is truth in The More is Less: Finding the Life You Want Under Everything You Own.
How to Declutter Your Home?
Before you begin draft a plan. Think of all the rooms you would like to tackle. Tie each to a specific goal. For instance, cleaning out the kitchen in three days just in time for Superbowl Sunday. These accomplishments will fuel your commitment to the declutter project.
Work on one room or one space at a time. And be sure to set time aside for the larger ‘hot spots’ in your home.
Which Room to Declutter First?
Start small. Getting rid of clutter can be a difficult process, so beginning small working towards the larger project is a good approach. Say goodbye to your cluttered house.
