Having date nights at home, just got a whole lot easier.
Keeping the romance alive in a relationship is important; it’s a way to have shared experiences with your partner that bring you closer together. Having an occasional date night gives couples a dedicated time to slow down the pace to reconnect.
And the beauty is, you don’t even have to leave your home. Sometimes it’s easier to just stay home rather than find a sitter or deciding on a restaurant to dine-in. Try one of these at-home date night ideas with your partner.
How to Have a Date Night at Home?
Planning a date night is simple. All you need is an idea and a little preparation to iron out any outstanding details. Whether that’s getting the kids to bed on time or penciling it in your calendar — start planning your date night. Dust off the date night dress for the special occasion.
Don’t skimp out on date night just because you are stuck at home. Dating is critical for couples; have a date night at home to keep the burning love.
Learn About Each Other
My husband and I tried this when we waited for room accommodations a year ago. Using the stack of conversation starters on the Airbnb kitchen table, we spent an hour asking each other random questions. After 18 years, it was refreshing to learn fun new things about him. Take the opportunity to ask your partner thought-provoking questions that rekindle intimacy with the Questions for Couples book.
Have a Romantic Candlelit Dinner
Bring the restaurant experience into your kitchen with all the horns and whistles. The secret is to focus on setting up the ambiance. Even if you are serving chicken fingers and fries on a silver platter, it can be incredibly romantic. It’s the thought that counts.
A few ideas to create the ambiance are candles (with the candlestick), a vase with roses, some slow tempo tunes. Have at least 3 courses, these can be simple recipes for the occasion. An Italian meal always whispers romance and a simple 4 ingredient a Cacio e Pepe will do the trick. A yummy vegetarian charred vegetable ragù that will comfort your soul. You can even order from a local restaurant, but serve them on your ‘good’ plates to elevate the experience.
Take a Couples Bath
A sensual way to reconnect with your partner. Scatter roses petals on the bathroom floor with a few lit candles around the room. With a dash of rose bath salt, relax and let your stresses melt away, only focusing on your partner. Make it a point to have fun with one another with some light conversation or reminisce on old times. Wine strongly recommended.
Have a Picnic Outside
Switch your date night scenery to the outdoors. All you need is a blanket or white sheet, a cheese plate with your beverage of choice. Add a special touch with some swanky vintage goblets because you deserve to feel like royalty in your own home.
Breakfast in Bed
Kickstart the morning with a sweet date night idea. Prepare a hearty breakfast to devour in bed with your partner. An easy no-flip blueberry pancake you start cooking on the stovetop and finish in the oven. Whip up a love toast made with gruyere on sourdough bread with a colorful fruit bowl salad. Set up the dishes on a food tray, if you have one, or arrange them on the bed. Serve it with a pomegranate mimosa.
Stargaze
Admire the stars in the night-sky cuddled up with your honey. Download a stargazing app to a shooting star and celestial bodies.
Slow Dance the Night Away
When I think of slow dancing, Put Your Head on My Shoulder by Paul Anka fills my thoughts. The last time I heard a slow song in a public setting, was during prom in the early 2000s. Nowadays, this genre is nearly non-existent.
But now, it’s time to slow down your life. Find a ballads playlist on a streaming service, you can even use a youtube playlist. Let it transport you to younger days when the bellhop was a thing.
Slow down your life to reminisce about the golden days when you were courting each other. Or play your wedding song. Love by Musiq Soulchild always tugs at my heart sings. My husband would sing it to me when we dated the first time around.
Backyard Drive-In Movie Theater
Move your date night outside with a movie. There’s something romantic about watching a movie under a starlit sky. Dress up the backyard with fairy lights, blankets, or bed sheets for sitting and throw pillows for comfort. Without a doubt, watching When Harry Met Sally on a projector, just hits a little different.
Have Sex
Be intimate with your partner. No further explanation is needed.
Massage Each Other
One of my favorite date night ideas. Another great way to be intimate with your significant other. You can give a satisfying at-home massage with this how-to guide that can lead to incredible things. The trick is to always maintain one hand as you rub the oil into the skin.
I find this brings you closer to your partner, touching areas that usually remain untouched. Besides, who knows where all the touching may lead.
Brace yourself for many nights of swooning with these date night ideas.
